If you have started to read this let me warn you I will not give 5 tips on how to start painting, (There is a lot of content out there on google telling you how to do that)
So why am I writing this? Just sharing a few experience with sudents and parents in my studio and also because I believe anyone can create art.
When I started Moonware Creatives I came across a lot who were scared to draw, scared to paint, anything creative made them feel incapable. There is this one thing I always asked them all. Have you ever watched children play with colors or draw? A childs mind is fearless and without judgments. They do what they feel.
A childs mind is free as long as its not tampered with, not feed with opinions and suggestions of what is right and what is wrong. the minute that happens everything changes. Fear, doubts, rigidity, beliefs, egos, complexes etc. develops.
Most of the children who come to learn believe-
1. Think they are too good at what they do, (Not always good)
2. Believe they are not good and are scared & also believe art is for creative minds and they might just mess up anything they try.
But all these are told to them by some one either parents, friends, teachers. Children are either made to believe that they are out of this planet and excellent when they really are'nt and so become extremly difficult to teach or correct. The other lot are the scared ones since someone told them that they are just not worth it and they cannot even draw a line.
I have taught both and have been surprised how much everyone has in them. Some surprise me with such amazing work that I feel blessed I was able to help.
There is also this firm belief that only certain kind of painting or drawing or creativity is good. But dont we all agree that art is a form of expression and that expression can be done in anyway you want. So lets say we are all born talents and just need a little help to realise what we want and how we want to achieve it.
My experience with many tells me the best way to be an artist is -
Just be a child who love to scribble on the walls
Just be that child who love to mix mud in a mug of water and play with it
Just let go and dont think its gonna be bad, we dont know what is bad creativity, everything is art :)
Just scribble to start with and all is good to go.
